How a Little League Softball Team Coached Me to Be a Better Man
Phone Rings. I answer:
“Hello?”
“Uh, yes. Am I speaking to Mr. Nichols?”
“Yes, you are.”
“Mr. Nichols, did you recently sign your daughter up to play 8U league softball this spring?”
“Yes, I did.”
“Well, Mr. Nichols, I’m with the league. How do you feel about coaching the team? I have the players. I just need a coach.”
“Uh, can you find someone else?”
“Sir, I have already asked all the other parents, and so far, there aren’t any takers.”
“Okay. Well, I guess I will do it.”
My wife enters the room and sees my face as I hang up the phone.
“Are you okay? Who was that.”
“That was the softball league. They can’t find a coach for the team H is on, so they want to know if I would do it.”
“So you are worried you won’t like it?”
“No! Not at all. I’m worried I will love it.”
